HYR270 HydroRight® Dual Flush Valve and Push Button Handle
The HydroRight Dual Flush Valve quickly and easily converts a standard toilet into a two-button, dual flush toilet saving a family of four more than 15,000 gallons of water per year by providing a choice between a full or reduced flush. One button is the Quick Flush setting that uses significantly lowers water volumes for liquids and paper – the setting needed 4 out of 5 times. Designed for drop-in installation, the HydroRight is the only converter that can be installed in without tools and without having to remove the tank. The HYR270 replaces the flapper, chain and handle, therefore eliminating most common toilet problems.

Hi, I’m moving this to a new toilet, where can I find the instructions?
Danco (store manager)–
Good Afternoon Mike,
Thank you for your inquiry. We have a “How To” video under our How To tab on the product page. The video can also be found under the Support tab in the How To Center. Just look for HYR270! After several years of trouble-free operation, our HydroRight flush valve started leaking water into the bowl. I tried-positioning, re-installing, cleaning everything, etc……but nothing stopped the leak. The leak rate for draining the tank varied from 3 hours to 8 ...Read Morehours. I finally pulled the assembly out and installed a new old-style flapper which is working fine but doesn’t give control of flush volume. Any suggestions before I toss your new technology ?
Good Morning Mike,
We are sorry to hear that you have recently had some trouble with the HYR270. Normally when an issue like this arises there are several reasons the water could be leaking into the bowl. There could be a broken zip tie, blisters on the blue dome gasket ...Read Moreor plunger gasket, black retainer or cam missing, or the assembly reinstalled too tight. Because there could be several reasons for this we would like you to contact us so we could help with troubleshooting the problem. I should also remind you of the warranty and if you choose we would be happy to send you new parts or a replacement. Our Product Support team can be reached at 800-523-5135 (option 2) or if you prefer you can email them at [email protected]. Thank you for letting us know of the issue you have experienced.
If you have any “Do It Yourself” ability at all, you can install one of these without any trouble. Once adjusted properly, these things will absolutely save on your water bill.
Two things: First, it may take some training of friends and visitors (“hey...Read More, which button do I push?”)
Second, you have to follow the instructions for installation and setup with some degree of care (like I say, for a DIY’er, this shouldn’t be a problem) to get maximum benefits.
For example, Be careful to have a good seal between the toilet outflow gasket (terminology?) and the (what I assume is a silicone) gasket on the bottom of the device. Also, be sure to pull the zip tie up nice and tight (you’ll understand when you get to that part of the installation. Don’t misunderstand me; installation is straightforward.
Having said that much, we’ve had these in three bathrooms for about ten years, and we’ve never had a problem.
I installed this dual flush valve and the Hydroclean fill valve in 3 toilets about 6 years ago. All had been working flawlessly until recently one of the flush valves would not do the quick flush unless we held the button in. I tried the troubleshooting tips but that did not...Read More fix it. The valves sold back then had a 5 year warranty. I called technical support to see if there was anything else I could try before buying a new valve. The technical support rep told me that I had already tried everything he would have suggested and offered to send me a new valve free of charge. I told him I did not expect this since the valve was out of warranty. About a week later the valve showed up at my door. I installed it and it works fine. You can’t go wrong with these valves and this company. I have been very happy with the operation of the valves and have saved a lot of water considering most of one’s flushes are the quick flush. I am overjoyed with the customer service.
Hi, recently, the two buttons of my HYR270 HydroRight became so heavy to push, it’s almost impossible for children to do so. I started to investigate and realized that when the tank is empty, there is no problem at all and everything works like a charm. However, when the...Read More tank is full of water, the pressure to apply on the button to lift the mechanism (i.e. internal flapper) becomes insane. I don’t know if this is a common problem but I suspect the flapper to have became weak in a way that it now sticks to the seat or deforms too much under water weight so it gets stuck somewhere. Of course I uninstalled eveything and cleaned everything making sure the issue wasn’t a lime/rust/dust issue. Everything was extra clean, not much to clean. So I’m now clueless on what to do. Can I just purchase the internal seal or I have to buy the whole unit again? Thank you. Vincent

I had seen dual flush toilets a lot in Europe and was excited to install this one by Danco. Installation was tricky because the tank was narrow. Unfortunately, every few minutes it releases a little water with a brief flushing sound. The “troubleshooting” section o...Read Moref the manual suggested removing everything (which required cutting the zip tie), re-seating against the blue dome gasket, and reinstall. I did that, and nothing changed. Haven’t found any other suggestions on the web site. I’m about ready to rip out the whole thing and put in a simpler regular flush mechanism.
I have a similar experience as noted by others…the blue silicone dome seal material has developed a blister which prevents a proper seal and allows water to pass by making the toilet “auto-flush” every hour. Not the water saving I bargained for!

Good Morning Dilip,
Thank you for your reaching out to us. We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. It seems as if there might be debris in the fill valve causing a vibration. To correct this, please try the following:
1. Turn off the water at the ...Read Morewall.
2. Remove the cap from the top of the fill valve by pulling straight up. The cap will be difficult to pull the first time, but will come off.
3. Remove the white piston assembly by lifting the float arm and rotating counter-clockwise until it unlocks, then lift it out.
4. Cup your hand over the exposed part of the valve and slowly turn the water on going to the toilet.
5. Let the water run for about 15-20 seconds, flushing any debris out.
6. Turn the water back off.
7. There’s a round black rubber seal underneath the piston assembly that the float arm attaches to. Please remove that seal and run it under water, looking for any tears or punctures. Make sure to run water through the center of it. Do the same with the piston assembly, moving the arm up and down to allow water through.
8. If there is no damage to the gasket, replace the it and the piston assembly, and put the top blue cap back on to the valve
9. Test.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please contact our Product Support team at 800-523-5135 (option 2) or [email protected]

I have installed these on all three toilets at home and, for the most part, they work well. Two of them, though, both HYR270, flush fine but refill painfully slowly. Typically takes 10 or more minutes to refill the tank so they are ready for another flush.

Tried several ways to get this to stop running and so far they have all failed. It worked great for a little while, and I like having the dual flush. Right now we have a hose clamp holding it in place and that is working better than without it.

Good Morning Darren,
Thank you for choosing Danco/MJSI products. We apologize for the difficulty you have experienced. It seems like the flush valve might not be seating correctly.
1.Shut off the water to the toilet.
2.Since this is not a brand new install, c...Read Moreheck to make sure that the zip tie that holds the mounting bracket closed is still in place. If not, that is usually the cause of the issue you are experiencing. If still there, remove it.
3.Disconnect the upper housing from the base and remove cam adjuster and slide unit down overflow tube.
4.Wipe down the surface of the valve opening with a cloth soaked in white vinegar to ensure there is no mineral buildup or other debris that could be causing the leak.
5.Verify the dome gasket is making good contact (all the way around and not only hitting in one spot). Press down with 2 fingers on the upper edge of the base. *Pushing down too hard when installing is the most common reason for a bad seal. Watch the inside of the seal as you install it. If you can see it bending, you’ve pushed too far.
6.Add cam adjuster to fill space/ gap between the tabs of the unit and the overflow tube. Insert the largest diameter into the largest gap in the space between the tabs of the unit and the overflow tube.
7.Disregard the cam adjuster if there is not space. Tighten the zip tie and reassemble upper housing.
8.When sliding the black rubber retainer band down, bring it until it just touches the mounting bracket. It’s not so much there to hold the unit down as it is to keep if from coming up. Pushing down too hard can tilt the unit and cause a leak.
9.Test by shutting off water while tank is full. Do not flush for 60 minutes. Check water level. If water level drops, repeat the steps above.

About a year ago I installed 2 of these in our home, along with 1 more in my sisters bathroom and all 3 had been working great. After seeing no obvi...Read Moreous issues, I wiped everything clean and reinstalled it, but it did the same thing. I went to the store where I bought them and they told me there are no replacement parts and so I bought another new unit, which after installing worked perfectly. Since that time my other one start having the same leaking problem, so I took this one out, looking to find some dirt or something between the big blue tapered silicone piece and the actual drain into the bowl, but like the first one, it was spotless, so put in back in and it still leaked. I went back to the store to see if they had any ideas and they informed me they are no longer carrying this product line. The guy asked me if I had ever checked the gasket inside the unit and I said I never knew or seen another gasket. He explained it is located under that flange that drops down after the flush is complete and seals off the flow so the tank can refill. I came home and got the first one I replaced, looked inside and sure enough there was a thin flat washer style gasket, but it looked like it had the measles with small blisters on it. I poked one with a pin and liquid sprayed out of it. Clearly those blisters were keeping that gasket from sealing and that was my leak. Very frustrating to have a small, non-replaceable rubber gasket causing me to throw the entire unit in the trash. On the bright side my sisters unit still works great. Is it true you have no replacement parts for these?
Since I can’t find anybody in my area that still carries this product line and I’m told you folks have no repair parts, I guess I’m just stuck with 2 of the 3 units leaking because of flat gasket or seals that look like they have the measles and not fixable.<...Read More/p>

Just wanted to give kudos to the Danco customer service department for their great service.
I have two HydroRight dual-flush converters installed on the older toilets in my house: one was purchased in 2010 (made by MJSI) and the other was purchased in 2015 (a Danco-bran...Read Moreded model after they bought MJSI). The older one has been working like clockwork since we installed it almost ten years ago, but the newer one developed a problem after two years; the float wouldn’t return to the top after a Full Flush, allowing water to continuously leak into the bowl. Jiggling the housing or repeatedly pressing the Full Flush button would get the float to pop back up, but this became a nuisance over time.
After trying some troubleshooting steps on my own (such as reseating the housing, adjusting the float, rotating the overflow tube cam, replacing the zip tie), I contacted Danco to get some advice. I reached an agent named James who didn’t beat around the bush. He said that the newer HydroRight was clearly defective, so he immediately offered to ship us a new one.
