How To Replace a Toilet Handle
Replacing a toilet handle is a great way to add style to your bathroom. You can add a personal touch in just minutes with this easy project. So get ready to get a handle on your handle.
Tools Required: Screwdriver, Adjustable Pliers, Hacksaw (optional)
Step
1
Turn off the water supply to Toilet. Flush the Toilet to drain the water. Disconnect the Flapper Chain or Tank Ball Lift Wire from the existing Handle Assembly Lever Arm.
Step
2
Remove the Shank Nut from the existing Handle Assembly Shank. Some models use a left-threaded Nut that rotates clockwise to unscrew. Note: If the Shank Nut is badly corroded, do not attempt to unscrew. Using a Hacksaw, cut through the Shank Nut. Use a Flathead Screwdriver to pry the two halves apart.
Step
3
Remove the existing Tank Handle by pulling through the mounting hole in the Tank Wall.
Step
4
Remove the Gasket and the Shank Nut from the new Handle Assembly. Insert the Handle through the mounting hole in the Tank Wall. From the inside of the Tank, place the Gasket onto the Shank on the Handle base. Thread the Shank Nut onto the Handle Shank. Note: The Shank Nut may be a left-threaded Nut that rotates counterclockwise to install.
Step
5
Align the Handle Lever Arm over the Flapper and attaché the Lever Arm through the Handle using a Wing Nut.
Step
6
Re-attach the Flapper Chain or the Tank Ball Lift Wire.
Step
7
Turn the water supply back on and flush. Inspect for leaks.
